The Faculty of Engineering lies on a land area of 180 000 square metres. Its gross floor area is 95 000 square metres. The structural system is based on precast concrete double-t beams for the roof works and precast concrete for the facial elements of the fa×—ade. The Faculty of Engineering is composed of the following main buildings:
1. Academic spine buildings: These consist of two lecture halls each with a capacity of 250 persons in addition to the study and reading halls. These also contain a 600-seat theatre, a cafeteria to service both students and university personnel, and a draughting hall with 900 sq metres of floor area.
2. Faculty wings and connectors: This group of buildings is composed of 31 wings and 86 floors each with an area of 700 square metres. All these buildings are connected by connector buildings and 23 complexes that house all infrastructure and service facilities such as stairs, bathrooms, warehouses, electrical and mechanical rooms, and eight water reservoirs. This group occupies 108 floors. Seven court buildings are annexed to these buildings and are used as libraries for the different schools of engineering.
3. Central engineering workshop: This is composed of three buildings with a total floor area of 9000 square metres.
4. Technical laboratories buildings: Four huge laboratories (hydraulic, electrical, petrol, and industrial) have a total floor area of 6000 square metres, |
